Breeze Airways Baggage Allowance: Fare Bundles & Carry-on Rules

Breeze Airways doesn't play by the usual rules. Founded by David Neeleman, JetBlue's visionary, the airline lives by its "Seriously Nice" promise. However, that “nice” branding does come with a very specific Breeze Airways baggage allowance playbook you need to handle.

To keep your Breeze Airways trip "Seriously Nice", it's essential to understand its "à la carte" nature and tiered pricing strategy. Want to bring a checked bag or a bigger carry-on? You'd better lock it in when you book. If you wait until you’re at the gate, those fees can jump up quite a bit. So, pack what you need, get it settled ahead of time, and save your money for the destination.

    Cabin Luggage on Breeze Airways

What is the baggage allowance for Breeze Airways? When it comes to cabin luggage, Breeze Airways baggage policy uses an à la carte model to keep things flexible (and affordable if you're travelling light). Every passenger starts with a baseline allowance - a personal item, and then pays extra to build up a bundle that fits their needs.

    Personal Item

The airline is quite specific about Breeze Airways baggage size. Their cabin luggage is split into two types: personal items and carry-ons.

You’ll get one Personal Item for free, no matter which fare you choose. This item must stay within 17 × 13 × 8 inches (43 x 33 x 20 cm) and must fit under the seat.

What counts? Any small backpack, laptop bag or purse can be considered a personal item. Keep in mind that you only get one. If you're carrying both a purse and a backpack, put the purse inside the backpack before you get in line to avoid extra fees.

Are you looking for a new underseat bag for your next adventure? Find your perfect Breeze-friendly fit in our CabinZero collection.

    Carry-on Bag

If your bag fits in the overhead bin, it's a carry-on. Unlike "legacy" airlines (like Delta or United), Breeze Airways does not automatically include a carry-on to all fare tiers. With “No Flex” fares, you need to either upgrade to a “Nicer” or “Nicest” bundle or buy a carry-on separately.

    • Dimensions: Up to 22 x 14 x 9 inches (Wheels + Handles included)

    • Weight: Up to 35 lbs (15.8 kg).

Here’s a breakdown of cabin luggage you’re entitled to on different fare types and bundles:

The secret to a stress-free boarding with Breeze Airways is a bag that's guaranteed to fit. We’ve specifically tested the CabinZero 28L to meet all major carriers’ underseat requirements, so it won't get flagged at the gate (and no more $75 charge). Weighing a mere 600g, our underseat backpacks provide 28 litres of spacious compartment, a 15.6-inch laptop sleeve and a water-resistant shell to protect your gear. It’s built for the minimalist traveller who wants pure efficiency and protection without extra bulk.

Breeze Airways Checked Baggage Size & Fees

If you’re heading out on a Breeze flight, understanding their checked bag policy can help you roll into the airport worry-free. First, below are the ground rules for any checked items:

    • Dimensions: Within 62 linear inches (length + width + height)

    • Weight Limit: 50 pounds (23 kg).

    • Due to cargo size restrictions, the airline doesn't accept any bag over 99 pounds or 80 linear inches.

How much gear are you bringing? Your baggage allowance really depends on the fare bundle you choose at booking. Here’s a breakdown of Breeze Airways' checked bag allowance for different fare types:

    • No Flex / Nice: No checked bags included; Breeze Airways baggage fees apply per item. It’s ideal for light travellers.

    • Nicer: 1 checked bag included, more legroom, and priority boarding - the perfect middle ground for a comfortable trip.

    • Nicest: 2 checked bags included. It also includes a premium seat in Breeze Airways' exclusive Ascent cabin.

Timing is everything when it comes to Breeze Airways baggage fees. If you add your bags during the initial booking, your Breeze Airways baggage cost starts around $35-$41. If you delay this until you reach the airport, that same bag jumps to $75.

    Overweight and Oversized Charges

What happens if my bag is too big on Breeze? When flying with Breeze Airways, stay mindful of your suitcase weight and size to avoid any unexpected surcharges at the airport. Don't try to push the limits - you might end up paying more than you planned due to extra fees. If your bag tips the scale, here’s what you can expect:

    • Bags weighing 51 - 70 pounds: a $20 extra charge.

    • Bags weighing 71 - 99 pounds: $50 extra charge.

If your bag measures between 63 and 80 linear inches (length + width + height), it's considered an oversized item and subject to a $50 surcharge. Bags exceeding 99 pounds in weight or 80 inches in overall dimensions won't make it onto the plane.

    Special Equipment and Considerations

Whether you're bringing a CPAP for a good night’s sleep or golf clubs for a getaway, this guide outlines everything you need to know when flying with special items on Breeze.

    Sport Equipment

Breeze Airways has a pretty accommodating sports equipment policy, but there are a few size limits to ensure safety. Standard equipment, such as golf, ski, and fishing items, typically count as checked bags. However, you should keep your bag under 50 lbs and 62 linear inches to avoid additional fees. If your gear is bulky and pushing the limits up to 99 lbs or 80 inches, it's not getting on the plane.

Please note that Breeze Airways isn't able to transport watercraft, including but not limited to paddleboards, canoes, boats, or kayaks. The airline also doesn't accommodate wave-sport gear such as surfboards, kitesurfing gear, and windsurfing gear. For a detailed list of prohibited sports gear, please refer to the Breeze Airways guidelines here.

    CPAP and Medical Devices

Like with most airliners, your CPAP and most medical gear fly for free with Breeze Airways. The airline doesn't count your device toward your baggage limit, as long as it's in its own case.

Just keep in mind that you'll need to plan for the lack of onboard power. Make sure your battery is FAA-labelled and charge it 150% of your flight time. For peace of mind, keep it in your cabin bag rather than checking it. This way, it stays safe and within reach when you need it.

    Breeze Airways Military Baggage

Breeze actually takes care of active-duty military better than most. You get a free carry-on plus two checked bags, and up to five checked bags on official orders. The airline is also generous with the size and weight, up to 99 lbs and 80 inches, and most importantly, without oversize fees. Just keep your military ID ready when checking in at the ticket counter, and they’ll take care of everything.

Booking and Check-In with Breeze Airways

Thanks to Breeze Airways intuitive online booking platform and a convenient 24-hour early check-in, you can handle the logistics with more ease and less stress.

    Booking with Breeze Airways

Booking with Breeze is simple once you understand how their system works. If you're a first timer, here's how to book a flight on their official website:

Step 1: Set up your account: Sign up for Breezy Rewards on their official website. You must have an account to book with the airline (and of course, earn rewards on everything, even bag fees).

Step 2: Use the Calendar Tool: Search for available flights by entering your departure and arrival cities. Click the calendar to see the options you have. Since Breeze Airways operates many point-to-point and seasonal routes, you might see no flight listed on a certain day.

CABINZERO’s tips: If your trip is flexible, look for flights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as they're usually cheapest.

    Step 3: Choose your Bundle

Breeze offers several fare options so you can choose the one that best speaks to your travel needs:

    Step 4: Enter Passenger Information

Enter your first and last name exactly as shown on your identification. Booking for family or friends? Just click “Add a New Guest” to enter their info.

Step 5: Lock In Your Add-Ons

Select your checked bags and seats on the “Add-ons” page. If you plan to travel with a checked bag, this is when the prices are lowest, at around $35-$41 for your first bag. Breeze Airways checked baggage fees spike when you delay until you arrive at the airport counter.

    Step 6: Review and Pay

At checkout, you can use your credit card or redeem your eligible BreezePoints. You’ll also see an option to add travel insurance before confirming your purchase.

    Check in with Breeze Airways

Breeze Airways keeps its check-in process super chill and mostly digital. To keep your departure smooth and stress-free, you can follow these simple steps:

    Step 1: Check-In Window

Breeze opens the check-in 24 hours before your flight. If you have their app, you will receive a push notification. Complete digital check-in immediately.

Step 2: Log In to Your Account

A screenshot from the Breeze Airways website

Log in to the “My Trip” section to find your reservation

Open the app or go to the Breeze Airways website to log in to your account. Click on the "My Trips" section to see your upcoming flight. You can simply follow the prompts to complete your check-in.

Are you flying on an international flight? If yes, you MUST check in at the airport counter. The crew needs to see your passport in person before you can fly. Their counters open 3 hours before departure and close exactly 60 minutes before takeoff.

Step 3: Add Bags (If Needed)

When you check in, the app will ask if you need to add bags or upgrade your seat. This is also your “last call” for the lower prices (they’re always more expensive when purchased at the airport).

Step 4: Get Your Boarding Pass

Confirmed your details? Add your boarding pass to your Apple or Google Wallet so it's ready to go.

    Step 5: Bag Drop Timing

If you arrive with checked bags, make sure to drop them off at least 45 minutes before our domestic flights and 60 minutes before your international flights.

    FAQs

Got more questions about bags? Below, we've answered the most commonly asked questions so you can better understand baggage limits and charges when flying with Breeze Airways.

    1. Does Breeze do free checked bags?

Whether you're entitled to free checked bags or not depends on your fare type. If you’re on a No Flex or Nice fare, checked bags are not included and must be paid for separately. The Nicer fare includes one free checked bag, and the Nicest fare offers two for free. If you’re active-duty military, you'll get two free checked bags on any leisure flight.

    2. How much does Breeze charge for baggage?

Breeze Airways baggage pricing is dynamic. The earlier you click, the more you save. Usually, adding your first checked bag at booking only costs you between $35 and $41. A second bag typically costs $45-$55.

Whatever you do, don't wait to add your bags at the airport counter, as that same bag will incur a flat $75 charge. The best baggage advice? If you know you're checking a bag, at least choose the Nicer bundle, which usually covers your luggage for just a few bucks more.

    3. How strict is Breeze with carry-on size?

Like any other budget airlines out there, such as Frontier and Spirit, you will be find if you stick to the rules. If your carry-on bags appear compliant, rest assured, as they’ll likely skip checking and let you board quickly.

However, keep in mind that Breeze gate agents do still have rules to stick to, especially when your flight is packed. If your bag is visibly over 22 x 14 x 9 inches or hasn't been paid for yet, you could get hit with a $75 gate fee. In the end, the airport team makes the call.

    4. Can I prepay for baggage with Breeze Airways?

Yes. You can prepay for your luggage with Breeze, and we strongly recommend it. The airline uses dynamic pricing, which means bag prices are lowest during initial booking and creep up the closer you get to your flight.

To prepay your baggage, simply log into "My Trips" on the Breeze website or app or by contacting the Guest Empowerment Team. If you wait until the airport, it’s usually a flat $75 charge. It's definitely not the vibe you want for the start of a trip.

    5. Is a backpack a personal item on Breeze?

Yes. Your small backpack can count as a free personal item on Breeze Airways as long as it can fit under the seat. If you're flying with a larger backpack, however, double-check if your fare already includes a carry-on to avoid extra charges.

    6. Does a purse count as a personal item?

Your purse can count as your free personal item, as it generally stays within the 17 x 13 x 8-inch size limit and fits under the seat. If you've also got a backpack, you'll need to stuff the purse inside to avoid being charged for a second bag.

    The Breeze Baggage Wrap-Up

Breeze is an awesome way to fly nonstop to cities big airlines often skip, but it helps to do a bit of prep for a smooth flight. If you want a “Seriously Nice” experience, book your bags when you first buy your ticket and make sure they fit within Breeze Airways baggage allowance. If you manage to bring a single underseat bag, it's the easiest and cheapest way to travel. We hope these tips helped you get ready for your trip. If it did, feel free to like and share this guide with your fellow travellers. Enjoy the flight!
