    Does Vietjet Allow Free Carry-On?

Yes, but you can bring one carry-on and one personal item on board. VietJet Air is a low-cost carrier, which means the base fare covers the bare minimum.

    Hand Luggage Allowance

Each passenger is allowed one main carry-on item and one small personal item. Moreover, all of your carry-on bags must have a Vietjet label attached at the check-in counter. Otherwise, they will be refused on board.

    Hand Luggage Dimensions

The main cabin bag must not exceed 56 x 36 x 23 cm in dimensions, and must be able to fit in the overhead compartment

The personal item must fit under the seat in front. It could be one of the following items:

    • A handbag, reading materials, camera, baby food bag, or duty-free shopping bag with dimensions not exceeding 30cm x 20cm x 10cm.

    • A garment bag whose max dimensions are 114cm x 60cm x 11cm when opened.

    • A laptop bag with maximum dimensions of 40cm x 30cm x 10cm.

    Hand Luggage Weight

VietJet Air's cabin baggage weight limit depends on your fare class.

    • Eco and Deluxe passengers are capped at 7 kg total across both the cabin bag and personal item combined.

    • SkyBoss passengers get a higher allowance of 10–14 kg depending on the route

    • SkyBoss Business passengers can carry up to 18 kg.

Whichever fare you're on, that weight covers everything you bring into the cabin. There's no separate allowance for the personal item on top.

Just in case you are looking for a quality and durable carry-on for your upcoming trip, don't miss our CabinZero 28L backpack. This is our best-selling model, weighing only 600g, so it is super lightweight. Its dimensions of 39 x 29.5 x 20 cm are fully compliant with Vietjet Air baggage rules.

    Vietjet Air Checked Baggage Allowance

Unlike some full-service carriers, VietJet Air does not automatically include checked baggage in most fares. What you get depends entirely on the fare class you book.

    Fare Class

    Free Checked Baggage

    Eco

    None included

    Deluxe

    20 kg / 44 lb

    SkyBoss

    30 kg / 66 lb

    • Each piece of checked baggage must not exceed 32 kg in weight, and dimensions must not exceed 119 x 119 x 81 cm.

    • Any single item over 32 kg will not be accepted. it would need to be sent as cargo instead.

    • If you're on an Eco fare and need to check a bag, you'll need to purchase it separately.

How To Buy Baggage on Vietjet Air?

    • The minimum baggage package available to purchase is 15 kg, after which you can add weight in 5 kg increments.

    • Baggage fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If your plans change, you won't get that fee back.

    • Infants under two years old are not entitled to a baggage allowance, though strollers are carried at no extra cost.

    Pre-pay online (recommended)

You can add baggage via the website or app before your flight. Choose by weight (such as 20kg, 30kg) and book in advance if you know you’ll exceed the free allowance.

    • Domestic flights: over 20kg ≈ 450,000 VND, over 30kg ≈ 550,000 VND

    • International flights: can go up to 960,000 – 1,200,000 VND

Pre-paying is usually cheaper and faster at the airport.

    Pay at the airport

If you didn’t pre-book, you’ll need to pay directly at check-in and it’s more expensive:

    • Oversized baggage: about 300,000 VND (domestic), roughly double for international

    • Overweight baggage: around 40,000 VND/kg (domestic) and 180,000 – 670,000 VND/kg (international)

Note: You can check in up to 2 oversized items per flight, but only 1 piece is included if you pre-book a baggage package.

⚠️ Fees and allowances vary by route and change without notice. Always confirm your specific allowance at vietjetair.com before flying.

Invest in the right bag, and you never have to worry about bag fees anymore.

    Sports Equipment And CPAP Rules

What kind of sports equipment can you bring?

Vietjet Air considers sports equipment as special baggage, requiring separate fees and packaging. They will be considered oversized baggage if they exceed 203 cm per piece (maximum 32 kg per piece).

In reality, most sports equipment can be carried as long as you pack it properly. For example:

    • Scuba diving tanks must not contain any air, and the tank valve must be fully opened for transport

    • High-intensity and standard diving lamps containing rechargeable lead-acid batteries are not accepted as either checked or cabin baggage

    • Golf sets are accepted as checked baggage provided each piece stays within 203 cm linear dimensions.

For anything unusual or bulky, contact VietJet directly before booking to confirm whether your equipment is accepted and what fees apply.

CabinZero's tip: Purchase insurance for your sports baggage to avoid damage in transit.

Can you bring a CPAP machine?

Medical equipment, including CPAP machines, is generally permitted on flights through Vietnamese airports, but airlines should be notified in advance.

Vietjet might count them toward the carry-on baggage limit. You need to place them in a separate bag before boarding and inform the airline staff in advance.

Vietjet Air Booking and Check-in Process

Similar to other airlines, Vietjet Air also allows you to book and check in using two methods: online and offline.

    Booking with Vietjet Air

Photo taken from Vietjet's main website.

We still recommend booking online through the website or mobile app to compare prices more easily and choose a seat with more flexibility.

    Here are the detailed steps:

    • Step 1: Visit the website vietjetair.com or the Vietjet Air app

    • Step 2: Enter your information (including destination, expected dates, number of passengers) and select one-way/round-trip tickets, then click "Search".

    • Step 2: Choose the ticket type and select additional services if you want.

    • Step 3: Review the total cost and complete payment via card, bank transfer, or e-wallet

    • Step 4: Receive your booking confirmation (PNR) via email for check-in.

If you find it inconvenient to book tickets online, you can still visit the airline's authorised travel agencies to purchase tickets. And you should also prepare your passport to make ticket verification easier.

    Check in with Vietjet Air

After packing in compliance with Vietjet Air baggage allowance, you can choose to check in online or offline. As long as you ensure you check in at least 1-2 hours before departure for domestic flights and 2-3 hours for international flights.

    • For check-in at the airport: use the self-service kiosk to print your boarding pass.

    • For online check-in (recommended): check in at the "online check-in" counter at least 40 minutes before closing time. Then, enter your booking code to receive your e-boarding pass.

    FAQs

    1. How Strict Is The Vietjet Bag Policy?

Very. VietJet enforces one of the stricter cabin weight limits in Southeast Asia,  and they mean it.  Carry-on bags are generally weighed at check-in, and gate agents can pull bags that look heavy or oversized.

There's one more rule that catches people off guard: any carry-on bag without a VietJet tag will not be allowed on board. You need to get your bag tagged by VietJet staff at the check-in counter.

    2. Does Vietjet Air Allow 7kg Of Carry-On Baggage?

Yes, but with one important catch. The combined weight of your cabin bag and personal item must not exceed 7 kg. That 7 kg is not per bag. It covers everything you bring into the cabin together. Suppose your main bag weighs 5.5 kg and your laptop bag weighs 2 kg, you're already over.

If you're on a SkyBoss fare, the allowance is higher: SkyBoss passengers get 10–14 kg depending on the route, and SkyBoss Business passengers can carry up to 18 kg.

    3. What Happens If My Carry-On Bag Is More Than 7kg?

If your hand baggage does not comply with regulations, it will be charged as checked baggage or denied. The charges for overweight or oversized hand luggage are higher at the check-in counter and at the gate than they are pre-booking online.

The simplest way to avoid this entirely is to travel with a bag that's genuinely built for carry-on limits. CabinZero bags start at around 600g empty — meaning nearly all of that 7 kg goes on what's inside, not the bag itself. If you fly VietJet regularly, it's worth checking our cabin bag policy before your next trip.
